Softlink and OverDrive have announced deep API integration of OverDrive services into Softlink’s leading knowledge, content and library management solutions for schools and special libraries.
Softlink Chief Operating Officer Nathan Godfrey said Softlink was excited about extending the partnership with OverDrive, the global leader in eBook distribution, to provide innovations for the digital marketplace.
The APIs build on the success of Softlink and OverDrive’s current integration, which provides streamlined access to OverDrive’s digital collection, eBooks, eResources and other digital formats through a single access point.
Nathan said the new integration will enable libraries and their customers the ability to check out and place holds on eBooks without leaving their search interface and online catalogue as well as provide improved integration of business intelligence statistics and reporting.
“The innovations in lending and reporting will offer streamlined user services and greater than before analysis across physical and digital content to assist future resource planning,” he said.
“As a leading provider of integrated solutions, Softlink will continue to build on the relationship with OverDrive to provide innovative management, discovery and delivery of the world’s most extensive eBook collection.”
Nathan commented that in a recent partnership with OverDrive and a NSW multi-school population, Softlink undertook one of world’s first trials to explore the value of eBook resources for teaching, learning and leisure delivered through Softlink’s Oliver. As a result, 80 percent of students indicated that technology helped them read and almost 100 percent of parents involved believed that technology would assist their children to learn. “This finding advocates the value of integration of eBooks, other digital assets and platforms such as Oliver and Liberty to the future of our communities,” he said.
Claudia Weissman OverDrive VP of Library and Educational Sales said the plans for deep integration between Softlink’s solutions and OverDrive reflected their joint commitment to provide seamless digital and physical collection integration. “Our collaboration with Softlink enables us to deliver more powerful, integrated solutions for our mutual customers,” Claudia said. “We look forward to continuing to work together to develop innovations that benefit both libraries and their users.”
Nathan said one of the key benefits of the current integration is the powerful leverage that multi-site or large groups of libraries can achieve from their Softlink platform and the OverDrive eContent. “These innovations will provide libraries and their users with greater opportunities for access to digital and physical content and resources simultaneously,” he said.
OverDrive’s API enables library patrons to access and utilise OverDrive products and services without having to leave the familiarity of the library catalogue.
