The time has come once again, audiobook lovers! SYNC, sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and powered by OverDrive’s Sora student reading app, returns this Thursday, April 29.

Now in its 12th year, SYNC is a summer reading program targeted at teens aged 13 and older. The program provides two thematically paired audiobooks for checkout each week, for free, to every registered listener, for 14 weeks. That equals out to 28 free books over the course of the program — a great way to keep your students reading and learning, even if they might not be in class.

Using Sora to access SYNC

Here are a few tips for using Sora to access SYNC, whether you’re new to the app or an expert user.

How do I set up Sora? (For new users)

  1. Download Sora from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, or go to soraapp.com in your browser.
  2. In Sora, tap I have a setup code (at the bottom of the screen).
  3. Enter this setup code: audiobooksync.
  4. Enter the email address you used to sign up for SYNC.
  5. Tap Explore (at the bottom of the screen) to see the week’s featured titles

I already use Sora for school. How do I add SYNC titles?

If you already use Sora, you’ll need to add the SYNC program’s library. Here are the steps:

  1. In Sora, open the menu (in the top-right corner).
  2. Select Add a library.
  3. Search for audiobooksync and select the library from the results.
  4. Enter the email address you used to sign up for SYNC.

Once the titles have been added to your shelf in Sora, you can listen to them again and again, for as long as you want – just make sure you don’t return them!
