OverDrive Announces Digital Pioneer Award Winners
Digipalooza Celebrated Digital Downloads from the Library with a Rock and Roll Theme
(Cleveland, Ohio – August 9, 2006) – Digital Library Reserve & OverDrive, www.dlrinc.com, leaders in download audiobooks, eBooks, music and video, announced winners of the inaugural Digital Pioneer Award or “The Digies”. 13 public and special libraries who demonstrated leadership and excellence with digital media in the library were recognized at Digipalooza 2006 (www.digipalooza.com), OverDrive’s first national user conference recently held in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Digies capped off a weekend of presentations attended by 250 librarians, publishers, and media personnel from more than 30 U.S. states, Mexico, and Canada. Digipalooza sessions included Getting the Word Out: Promoting your Digital Media; Statistics and Reporting Tools; Collection Development Practices for Digital Media; Utilizing Local Content: Adding your own eBooks and Audio content to your DLR Account; Training and Support for Patrons, an Update on Media Players, Devices and Download Station; and a Video Industry Update.
The conference celebrated digital media use by libraries blended with a “Rock and Roll” theme that included a Friday night dance party and a Saturday evening tour of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Many of the award-winning librarians presented during the event on how download audiobooks, eBooks, music, and video are being used in their communities to expand the reach of their library.
Digipalooza 2006 event sponsors were HarperCollins Publishers and OverDrive. Support and exhibits were provided by BBC Audiobooks America, Blackstone Audio, Books on Tape, Brilliance Audio, Creative Labs, Dorling Kindersley, Harlequin Enterprises, Image Entertainment, International Digital Publishing Forum, Library Journal, and McGraw-Hill. Cleveland Public Library was the host library.
