New OverDrive App Taps Power of Windows 8
With OverDrive Media Console for Windows 8, readers can enjoy eBooks and audiobooks from libraries, schools and retailers around the world on devices including the Microsoft Surface.
Cleveland—November 19, 2012—OverDrive’s newest app showcases the best aspects of Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system and brings library eBooks to popular new devices including the Microsoft Surface tablet. Incorporating “action bars” and other dynamic features, OverDrive Media Console (OMC) for Windows 8 enables users to enjoy EPUB eBooks and MP3 audiobooks on computers and mobile devices running Windows 8 and Windows RT. OverDrive supplies eBooks, audiobooks and other digital content to more than 19,000 libraries, schools and retailers worldwide.
Download OMC for Windows 8 in the Windows Store and also at www.overdrive.com.
Readers will discover several convenient features in OMC for Windows 8. The eBook reader gives users the option to choose single or multi-column text and employs an “action bar” that shows different functions depending on the contents of the main screen. To access the action bar, tap or click the center of the screen. There are options to add bookmarks, navigate to another section of the eBook, and more. The audiobook player combines playback controls, book details, and other information on a single, horizontally scrolling screen. As with other OMC apps, users can access their library’s OverDrive-powered digital collection under “Get Books.”
OverDrive offers a catalog of more than 800,000 eBooks and audiobooks with support for all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Android™ phones and tablets, and Kindle® (U.S. only). Later this year, the company will launch its Next Generation platform (see YouTube preview), which will streamline the digital library experience for millions of users around the world with One-Step Checkout™ and the new, instant access, browser-based, eBook-reading technology OverDrive Read.
