By: Annie Suhy, OverDrive Collection Development Analyst.
Hold on to your gingerbread cookies! The OverDrive Librarian elves have been busy baking up some brand new holiday reading lists perfect for curating and showing off on your library’s homepage in all of their glittery goodness. With the winter holidays upon us, it’s a great time to showcase some of the best books for the season. Dust off the holiday classics or help patrons find a funny new friend!
With the season just beginning, many of us have just started our holiday preparations. What better time than now to find delicious inspiration in our Christmas Cookies list or begin decking the halls with the help of our Holiday Cooking & Decor list? If you, like me, are tired just thinking about all the holiday prep work you have to do, feel free to mix up a strong drink like those found in Holiday “Cheers!” and forget about it.
For those traveling to visit relatives this season, it’s always a good idea to have a few juvenile audiobooks handy to contain and entertain those excited, sugared-up little travelers in the backseat of the car or on the airplane. A fun way to pass the time en route and teach kids about their destination is with the “Santa is Coming to…(State)” collection which points out notable destinations in the U.S. states, plus many big cities and countries, as Santa delivers his goodies.
Kids and teens can get into the spirit of the season with our Winter Holiday collection, or learn all about the Jewish Festival of Lights with Shmelf the Hanukkah Elf and Latke, the Lucky Dog in our collection of Hanukkah Books for Younger Readers.
For readers who just want to take a step back from the frenzy, stay in bed and under the covers on Saturday morning, or cozy up by the fireside, the new Holiday & Winter Romance or Holiday Cozy Mystery lists are perfect escapes from the madness of the season.
Whatever your holiday reading pleasure, the OverDrive Librarian elves hope you find joy in these lists we’ve crafted. And for more jolly fun, don’t forget to shop the holiday sale happening now featuring tons of titles to help get you and your patrons in the spirit of the season. Happy reading and happy holidays!
