OverDrive’s Jill Grunenwald shares her best books of the year on NPR’s On Point
By: Jill Grunenwald, librarian and OverDrive Collection Development Analyst
When I say I love talking about books, I mean I LOVE TALKING ABOUT BOOKS. It’s one reason we started the Professional Book Nerds podcast a year ago.
Thanks to the podcast, I was asked to come onto NPR’s show On Point to discuss my favorite books of 2016! Nationally syndicated, the show host Tom Ashbrook records from Boston and I and the other two guests were both recording from our local NPR stations. I was on with Mary Ann Gwinn, book editor for the Seattle Times, and Ron Davis, co-owner of the independent bookshop Wild Fig Books and Coffee in Lexington, Kentucky.
We each came with a list of ten books, but with three guests and ten books each and only an hour for the show, we didn’t get a chance to get through all of them but my list is below so be sure to check them out!
Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
The Darkness Knows by Cheryl Honingford
End of Watch by Stephen King
The Trespasser by Tana French
The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman
Harmony by Carolyn Parkhurst
Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance
In a Different Key: The Story of Autism by John Donovan and Caren Zucker
Run Fast. Eat Slow by Shalane Flanagan and Elyse Kopecky
You can listen to the episode if you missed it by visiting On Point’s website. It was a fun conversation and I so appreciate On Point, NPR, and Tom Ashbrook for having me on!
We here at OverDrive will be doing our own Best Books of 2016 episode on the Professional Book Nerds so be sure to stay on the lookout for that!
