OverDrive eHighlights: Don’t Get Caught Without the Newest Titles
By: Annie Suhy, Librarian and OverDrive Collection Development Analyst.
Imagine this scenario. A patron asks if you have the newest title by Jojo Moyes or James Patterson or Roxane Gay or Neil Gaiman. They follow the author on Twitter and have known about the book’s release for months, and have been anxiously waiting to be the first to check it out from the library. You think to yourself: of course your library has purchased it— we always make sure to always have the hottest authors available on their release dates. But when you look to make sure, it’s not there. Forgotten in a sea of titles being published today, it’s much too easy to miss a title.
Patrons with a world of information at their fingertips can easily find when their favorite new book is being published and will quickly pounce the moment it’s available at the library. To avoid any embarrassment about missing one of those “can’t miss” titles, we offer a solution: the OverDrive eHighlights catalog, created by our Staff Librarians who know all too well the “blush factor” that can occur if you miss a big title.
eHighlights is a monthly catalog that highlights approximately 100 adult fiction and nonfiction titles with high print runs, starred reviews in popular journals like Booklist and Publisher’s Weekly, and books with media buzz. With new OverDrive eHighlights editions published 6 weeks or more in advance of title release dates, you can rest easy double checking that you’ve stocked your collection with the top pre-order titles. The April Adult edition currently features top titles from Alexander McCall Smith, Frederik Backman, Philop Kerr, Anita Shreve, Lisa Scottoline, and more. Is your library stocked with all the latest? Check it out!
Selecting for the children’s or teens collection? We’ve got you covered too with special quarterly Kids & Teens edition spotlighting the best new picture books, middle grade titles, young adult, and nonfiction.
