OverDrive Significantly Expands Magazine Catalog for Libraries Worldwide, Supplied by ZINIO
Over 3,000 popular titles are available for public, academic and corporate readers through Libby reading app
CLEVELAND – December 2, 2020 – OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for libraries and schools worldwide, is now offering more popular digital magazines than ever before. As a result of the company’s acquisition of RBdigital earlier this year, over 3,000 in-demand magazines supplied by ZINIO are now available through the OverDrive platform in the Libby app. All magazines are available in unlimited simultaneous use for public, academic and corporate libraries. Popular, top-selling titles in the new OverDrive Magazines package include National Geographic, The New Yorker, Good Housekeeping and Us Weekly (title availability may vary by geographic region.)
With this new catalog addition, patrons can borrow and read digital magazines alongside ebooks and audiobooks in the award-winning Libby app. The app now includes a new article view, which makes reading digital magazines more interactive and enjoyable.
“Harris County is one of the most diverse counties in the nation, so we’re really excited that the new magazines in Libby will give our community access to titles from all around the world and in a greater variety of world languages,” said Laura Smith, Collection Development Librarian at Harris County Public Library in Texas. “Our digital collections have always been popular, but with our branches closed to the public, periodicals have been one of the most impacted physical collections which means digital periodicals have become even more essential. We’ve always felt that our OverDrive magazines gave us great value, and we’re looking forward to increasing that value with the addition of so many new titles.”
In addition to the magazine package, OverDrive now offers a new “All Access” simultaneous use subscription package for comics and graphic novels supplied by ZINIO. Libraries can browse and subscribe to either simultaneous use package in OverDrive’s Marketplace.
Raul Suarez, President, General Manager Zinio & Naviga Commerce, stated, “We’re pleased to partner with OverDrive and make available our catalog of magazines and comics to their extensive network of libraries worldwide.”
Libraries with an existing digital magazine or comic subscription through RBdigital will be migrated to the OverDrive platform in early 2021.
