Vehicle promoting digital books from libraries makes Ohio debut after visiting 6 states

Cleveland, OH – September 23, 2008 –  After promoting digital audiobook, eBook, music, and video downloads at libraries in New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Cleveland-based OverDrive’s Digital Bookmobile (www.digitalbookmobile) will visit three libraries in Northeast Ohio. Cuyahoga County Public Library will host the 74-foot, 18-wheel Digital Bookmobile at the Fairview Park Branch in Fairview Park on Saturday, Sept. 27, followed by events at the Geauga West Library in Chesterland on Sunday, Sept. 28 and the Hudson Library and Historical Society in Hudson on Monday, Sept. 29.

At the free Digital Bookmobile events, readers can learn about and experience the download services available to nearly all library card holders in the Greater Cleveland area via Cuyahoga County Public Library, CLEVNET, and Ohio eBook Project.  To see if your library is a member of the OverDrive network, visit http://search.overdrive.com.

“Digital Bookmobile has traveled more than 2,500 miles to 17 cities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, introducing thousands of library users to digital books and more from their public library,” said Renee San Jose, events and marketing coordinator for OverDrive. “Readers of all ages are invited to try out their library’s download services with the Digital Bookmobile educational exhibits and hands-on learning stations.”

The Digital Bookmobile kicked off its national tour in New York City on Aug. 10 in Central Park. After the events in Northeast Ohio, the community outreach vehicle’s tour continues through 2009 with events tentatively planned in Chicago, Orlando, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Seattle, and cities in between.

The Digital Bookmobile, developed inside a 74-foot, 18-wheel tractor trailer, is a high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile that has served communities for decades. The community outreach vehicle presents programs that promote a host library’s digital media collection and ‘Virtual Branch’ download website. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high-definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players. Interactive computer stations give visitors an opportunity to search the digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and enjoy eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video from the library.

OverDrive powers popular download media catalogs offering eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video at thousands of libraries worldwide, including institutions in New York City, Singapore, Boston, and Toronto.
