Back to School Means the 3e’s with eBook Authoring and Development Tools for Microsoft® Reader to be used to Promote Literacy at Age Levels

 

San Francisco, CA – August 27, 2000 – OverDrive, Inc., (www.overdrive.com) the leading provider of software and content management services to the ePublishing industry, is providing at no cost over $2.5 million of ReaderWorks software to educational and qualifying non-profit organizations worldwide. Entitled the 3e Program – for eReading, eWriting, and eZ to use – the 3e Educators Program is open to teachers and individuals who work as educators for a public or private school district, a college or university, or any other institution devoted primarily to education .

The software donation includes 10,100 units of ReaderWorks Publisher 1.0 valued at $149 each, and 500 units of ReaderWorks SDK 1.0 valued at $2,000 each.  Publisher is desktop authoring software that allows users to create Microsoft® Reader eBooks, add and customize cover art, and include marketing data for online sale.  Steve Potash, president of OverDrive, said, “It represents some very exciting new ways for students to prepare reports, and for educators to create new textbooks for the classroom.  eBooks are great way to encourage reading as well, as students today are quick comfortable with electronic devices.”

The ReaderWorks SDK product is designed for use by experienced software developers to provide a wide array of capabilities including ActiveX control for the automation of eBook production and save as Reader functionality for applications.  The ReaderWorks SDK product can also be used to automatically create downloadable Reader documents from content displayed on websites.

Full instructions and qualification requirements are listed on the site. The web site has been launched and the program is open for enrollment now. Quantities are limited to the number stated and the program expires on November 1, 2000.
