150 Publishers Added to OverDrive Digital Library
Best-selling Fiction, Computing, Religion, Travel, Business, and Dictionary eBooks can be Borrowed from Library Websites
(CLEVELAND – October 22, 2003) – OverDrive, Inc., (www.overdrive.com) a leading digital library solutions provider of popular eBooks that can be read on almost any PC and PDA, announced today that over 150 publishers have joined its Digital Library Reserve. Best selling titles from Microsoft Press, Merriam-Webster, Barnes & Noble Digital Publishing, Tyndale House, Zondervan, Multnomah, Rough Guides, RosettaBooks, Peanut Press and others will join eBook collections from Time Warner, HarperCollins Perfectbound, John Wiley & Sons, McGraw-Hill, and Scholastic for libraries to loan their patrons.
Using the OverDrive system, best-selling eBooks can be selected and downloaded from the library’s website for offline reading on PCs and virtually all PDA devices. The eBooks borrowed automatically expire and check themselves back into the collection. Cleveland Public Library, (http://dlc.clevnet.org/); King County Library System, (http://ebooks.kcls.org); and Wright Memorial Public Library (http://ebooks.wright.lib.oh.us/) are among libraries that currently provide the service. Library systems scheduled to offer eBooks to their patrons using OverDrive’s service include MetroNet, Michigan; Youngstown, Ohio; Starkville, Mississippi; Essex County, UK; Burlington County, New Jersey and others.
Angelina Benedetti, Materials Selector, King County Library System (www.kcls.org) said, “OverDrive’s eBook selection is outstanding, with best-selling authors and award-winning titles. The books are reasonably priced and include added features and useful purchasing information such as descriptions, excerpts and author bios.”
OverDrive’s eBook collection for libraries contains thousands of titles patrons want to read, by authors they know and love. These include contemporary fiction, exciting thrillers, romance novels, classic literature, how-to, business and finance titles, children and young adult, study and reference guides, and much more. OverDrive provides libraries with custom integration services including MARC records for their eBook titles from OCLC. Earlier this year OverDrive announced a partnership with Dynix for integration of its services into the Horizon Information Management System and Dynix ILS.
