500 libraries adopt digital video service from OverDrive in just one year

Cleveland, OH – May 3, 2007 – OverDrive®, a leading provider of digital media services, announced just one year after launching, that its new download video collection tops 3,000 titles and is available at 500 libraries across the United States and internationally. For more information, visit http://www.overdrive.com/video. The momentum of OverDrive video mirrors the popularity of OverDrive’s other digital materials including audio books, eBooks and music. Through a single platform, library patrons can search, download and view or listen to all formats.

OverDrive began offering download video in April 2006, and has since added 3,000 new video titles from more than 20 video suppliers to the 100,000 music, audio book and eBook titles they distribute to more than 5,000 libraries worldwide. To view a library download video collection, visit the website for Boston Public Library (http://bpl.lib.overdrive.com) or Sacramento Public Library (http://download.saclibrary.org). Popular video titles include live concerts by James Brown and Cher, documentaries such as “Super Size Me,” feature films including “The Lost City” starring Bill Murray and Dustin Hoffman, stand-up comedy like “Larry the Cable Guy: Git R Done” and foreign language works in Spanish, Chinese and a variety of other languages.

“We’re gratified that Public Libraries are providing the leading technology to enable easy download for video from patrons’ homes,” said David Burleigh, OverDrive’s Director of Marketing. “Using your library’s digital OverDrive collection, you can download a feature film, children’s video, live concert or instructional video to watch at home anytime, even after the library is closed and after regular movie rental stores are closed. The materials you checkout will expire automatically at the end of the lending period, so you don’t have to worry about rushing to the library to return them or paying late fees.”

More than 500 publishers and suppliers of audio books, eBooks, music, and video have provided their digital content to OverDrive’s extensive network of libraries, schools, and retailers. Some video suppliers include A & E Television Networks, Magnolia Pictures, Weston Woods, Image Entertainment, and many more. Leading suppliers of eBooks and audio books include HarperCollins, Brilliance Audio, Blackstone Audio, Inc., Books on Tape, Listening Library, BBC Audiobooks, Hachette Audio, McGraw-Hill, and hundreds of others.
