First-of-its-kind Download Standing Order Plan brings the hottest titles to libraries on their release dates without manual effort

Cleveland, OH – August 29, 2007 – OverDrive announced today a new way for librarians to keep their download collections up-to-the-minute with the most popular titles available. OverDrive’s Download Standing Order Plan (www.overdrive.com/products/dlr/dsop.asp) enables libraries to automatically add frontlist audio books from several popular publishers on or before their release dates.

OverDrive, the world’s leading provider of download media to libraries with 75,000 audio book, eBook, music, and video titles and 5,000 library partners worldwide, made the Download Standing Order Plan available earlier this week. Libraries that participate can ensure that their digital media collections include the latest frontlist releases without spending time each week researching new titles. Libraries select a desired amount of titles from publishers of their choice to be automatically added to their collection monthly — orders can be revised if desired. In addition, the plans add a level of predictability to help smooth out budget planning. Participating publishers include Books on Tape and Listening Library (divisions of Random House), Blackstone Audio, Brilliance Audio, BBC Audiobooks America, HarperCollins, and Hachette Book Group.

“Our patrons clamor to download titles from John Grisham, Danielle Steel and Stephenie Meyer,” said Michael Ciccone, associate director for collections at District of Columbia Public Library (http://overdrive.dclibrary.org), the first library in OverDrive’s network to participate in the Download Standing Order Plan. “Having the latest titles automatically added to our collection saves our selectors time and provides our patrons immediate access to the hottest titles. It’s a win-win.”

Libraries can use this new feature to create pre-release buzz for eagerly anticipated new titles. Libraries that register for OverDrive Download Standing Order Plan will see selected titles automatically appear on their websites when they are available – even before their release dates. Patrons can place holds during the pre-release period, then check out and download the titles on the release date.

“OverDrive’s Download Standing Order Plan gives libraries the assurance that their digital collection will include new frontlist releases from top suppliers, allowing them to meet patrons’ expectations for immediate availability of hot titles,” said Karen Potash, a collection development specialist at OverDrive. “With an easy to use sign up and order process, Download Standing Order Plans free librarians to focus on other tasks while maintaining a library collection that is fresh, holds patrons’ interest, and keeps titles circulating.”
