OverDrive’s catalog, the largest collection of audiobook downloads for libraries, now includes ‘The Kite Runner,’ ‘Angela’s Ashes,’ and more

Cleveland, OH – December 10, 2008 – Blockbuster audiobook titles from Simon & Schuster, including “The Kite Runner,” “Angela’s Ashes,” and hundreds more, can now be added to OverDrive-powered download library collections. OverDrive (www.overdrive.com), the leading global distributor of digital audiobooks, eBooks, and more for public libraries, today announced an agreement with Simon & Schuster to distribute more than 1,000 unabridged and abridged digital audiobook titles to public libraries. Popular and bestselling works from David McCullough, Jimmy Carter, and Jeffery Deaver are among the audiobooks that have been added to OverDrive’s catalog of more than 150,000 audiobook, eBook, music, and video titles.

“Adding Simon & Schuster’s premium audiobooks rounds out our catalog of best-selling and award-winning titles so that we now include audio from all major publishers,” said Karen Potash, Collection Development Specialist for OverDrive. “Patrons can download these audiobooks to their home computers and transfer to many popular MP3 players, including Microsoft’s Zune® and Creative devices.”

Simon & Schuster’s download collection features popular unabridged and abridged titles in a variety of subjects.  Christopher Ciccone’s memoir “Life with My Sister Madonna,” Chelsea Handler’s satire “Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea,” and Jennifer Weiner’s women’s fiction title “Certain Girls” are included in the new download audiobook collection.  Best-selling nonfiction titles such as “The Obama Nation,” “A Beautiful Mind,” and “Rome 1960” are also available to public libraries.

All Simon & Schuster download audiobooks from the OverDrive-powered library download website are borrowed just like a print book.  A library customer can browse the digital catalog for titles, check out a title with a library card, and download the audiobook to his or her home PC. At the end of the lending period, files automatically expire and the software prompts the user to delete the audiobook title from his or her computer.

OverDrive powers more than 8,500 public library download websites worldwide. To see if your public library is a member of the OverDrive network, and to find Simon & Schuster titles from your library, visit http://search.overdrive.com.
