San Antonio, TX – March 5, 2010 – OverDrive (www.overdrive.com), the leading distributor of eBooks and audiobooks to libraries and schools, today announced improved access to the unique power of audiobooks, eBooks, and more for K-12 schools. AudioBook Classroom™ (www.audiobookclassroom.com) is now available, giving schools the ability to offer 1,001 assigned and recreational reading titles on any school computer for instant listening or transfer to an iPod® or other MP3 player. OverDrive has also expanded School Download Library® (www.schooldownloadlibrary.com), a web-based service with audiobooks, eBooks, and now music and video downloads for students’ personal computers and devices. OverDrive will demonstrate both digital book products at the 2010 ASCD Annual Conference (Booth #417) in San Antonio, TX, March 6-8.
AudioBook Classroom turns any computer connected to a school’s network into an instant listening, and learning station. The digital audiobook product gives all students simultaneous access to 1,001 popular and curriculum-based audiobook titles. Students can browse the collection on any school computer, listen to a title using the intuitive software interface, and transfer a title to their personal iPod or MP3 player in just a few clicks. Titles are available in 29 subjects from classic literature to popular fiction without waiting lists or holds.
With School Download Library, schools can also offer students 24/7 online access to a vast selection of popular and best-selling audiobook, eBook, music, and video titles on their personal computers. Students simply browse a custom-branded download website, check out a title with an existing ID or library card, and download a title to their personal computer. Borrowed digital titles can be read or listened to on a computer, or transferred to hundreds of compatible devices, including iPod, Zune®, and Sony® Reader™. At the end of the lending period, titles automatically check expires, so there’s never a late fee.
