Education industry veteran Don Fabricant to guide digital distributor’s continued expansion in K-12 market

Cleveland—October 9, 2012— As OverDrive brings its industry-leading eBook-lending platform to more schools in the United States and beyond, the digital distributor announced that it has hired an education-industry veteran to lead its rapidly growing K-12 eBook service. Don Fabricant—who previously held executive posts at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Eduventures and Thomson Learning—will serve as OverDrive’s General Manager of Education and Chief Sales Officer.

“I want to build on our success in public libraries and optimize our offerings for the school market,” says Fabricant. “School eBooks are an unstoppable trend, and we’re excited to get more students reading with the best eBook-lending platform and the most content from pre-K through high school.”

OverDrive now serves more than 3,500 schools in the U.S. and internationally, enabling millions of students to borrow eBooks and digital audiobooks from their school library for use on all major e-reading devices, including Kindle (U.S. only). Fabricant plans to develop new products and services that will help primary and secondary schools maximize the value of their digital collections. “We’re developing new tools based on EPUB and HTML5 open standards that will help teachers deeply integrate eBooks into the curriculum and empower school librarians to make targeted collection-development decisions,” he says.

OverDrive supplies its industry-leading eBook platform to more than 19,000 libraries, schools and retailers worldwide, offering a catalog of more than 800,000 titles with support for all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Android™ phones and tablets, and Kindle® (U.S. only). Later this year, the HTML5-powered, browser-based eReading technology OverDrive Read will streamline the library eBook experience for readers while giving publishers new ways to enhance EPUB titles.
