In-Library OverDrive Media Stations to be Showcased at Chicago ALA 2013
Large Touchscreens Enable “See, Touch, Read” for Library eBooks, Audiobooks & Video
American Library Association Annual Conference – Chicago – June 25, 2013 – OverDrive, the nation’s leading supplier of eBooks, audiobooks and other digital media to schools and libraries, announced today that it will demonstrate the new OverDrive Media Station at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition (booth 953) June 28-July 1 in Chicago. Librarians from public, school, academic and special libraries will be invited to experience the innovative system and see how it can be used in any library setting.
Using touch and swipe gestures at wall-mounted or free-standing kiosk touchscreen stations (including large screens or tablets), library visitors can browse, search and instantly sample all formats supported by the library, including eBooks, audiobooks, music and video. OverDrive Media Station leverages the library’s investments in their OverDrive-supplied digital collection, and features OverDrive Read (HTML5) for “See Book, Read Book” sampling of all EPUB titles, as well as instant sampling of MP3 audiobooks and streaming video, which will be demonstrated for the first time at ALA.
“OverDrive Media Station provides a unique and compelling way for libraries to introduce their popular eBook, audiobook and video service to the millions of people who visit libraries every day,” said David Burleigh, Director of Marketing for OverDrive. “These large, interactive displays can be placed in high traffic areas throughout the library, from the welcome area to the café, to reach even more of the community and develop loyal users.”
OverDrive Media Station was demonstrated and received positive reviews at BookExpo America in New York City last month, and is already in pilot in public libraries in Cuyahoga County, Ohio and Baltimore, Maryland. Orders are being taken for additional pilot placements at ALA and will be ready for delivery later this year.
