Instant access technology extends reach to virtually all devices with browser

American Library Association Annual Conference – Chicago – June 28, 2013 OverDrive, the world’s leading distributor of eBooks, audiobooks and video for libraries and schools, today announced at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition that it will offer its library and school partners an exciting new way to engage patrons and students.  Adding to the convenience of its popular eBook, audiobook, music and video website platform, streaming video will debut later this year with thousands of popular new titles as well as the ability to enjoy existing collections previously available only through download.

Visitors at ALA can preview OverDrive’s video streaming service at OverDrive’s booth (#953) throughout the conference, which takes place at McCormick Place in Chicago, June 28 thru July 1.  Streaming video allows cross platform compatibility and can be played on virtually any computer or device with a modern browser.

“OverDrive is continually looking for ways to expand its offering of high quality digital content to libraries, schools and retailers, so we’re excited to soon be able to add streaming video,” said Karen Estrovich, Manager of Collection Development at OverDrive.  “We recognize that people are increasingly consuming media on mobile devices, and to be able to offer a wide selection of video titles using the most advanced streaming technology aligns perfectly with our mission.”

OverDrive currently has more than 15,000 video titles available to libraries and schools in genres such as children’s, instructional, documentaries, comedy and concert specials, and expects many to be available in the new streaming format.  OverDrive will continue to add thousands of popular feature film titles in the U.S. and Canada, representing a wide variety of genres to appeal to all members of the community, including action/adventure, children, comedy, drama and music, among others.
