Are you Streaming yet?
By Rachel Woods, Librarian and Collection Development Analyst with OverDrive
All of the streaming video titles discussed in this post can be found here.
I have a confession to make: I am a recovering serial video re-watcher. When I love a movie, I really love a movie, and I will watch it over and over (and over) again. It had gotten to the point where picking new movies to watch seemed like a huge and daunting task. It’s not that I was afraid of commitment: I was just afraid of committing to new movies. As a former DVD librarian, I knew there were all kinds of new titles coming out every week but I still found myself watching the same things in rotation. So what did I do to inject my video viewing with some new blood? You guessed it: Streaming Video from my local library.
Videos are available instantly in your browser or through the OverDrive app and you never have to worry about getting a damaged DVD or overdue fines. And the best part is that they’re free and can be returned with the click of a button (or touch of a screen). You can check out as many titles as your library will allow, then return them and get more.
Have you looked at the streaming videos your library is offering lately? Because I think the selection may surprise you. New content is available for libraries to add every week and there’s a huge variety:
- Looking for some classic horror films? Sleep with the light on because of Psycho and Halloween
- What about film festival and Academy Awards winners? Check out Ida and See What I’m Saying
- Need some classic children’s literature in animated form? Try family favorites Harold and the Purple Crayon and Doctor De Soto
- Feel like singin’ and dancin’? Hum and tap your feet along with Royal Wedding and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella
- Hungry? Feed yourself with Jacques Pépin Fast Food My Way and Chef Michael’s Kitchen
- Need to burn off some calories after that big meal you just made? Work out with Jillian Michaels: Beginner Shred and cool down with Rodney Yee’s Daily Yoga
These titles are just a small sampling of what OverDrive has available. Check them out!
