Library patrons can read and discuss award-winning “If Sylvie Had Nine Lives” as an ebook for free

TORONTO – January 10, 2023 – Booklovers in Canada can dive into an innovative and remarkable story during the annual Together We Read: Canada digital book club. From January 10-24, patrons of participating Canadian public libraries can join hundreds of thousands of others reading Saskatchewan author Leona Theis’s ebook, If Sylvie Had Nine Lives. Readers can access for free the winner of both the High Plains Book Award and the Saskatchewan Fiction Award, with no waitlists or holds by downloading the Libby reading app. They can also participate in an online discussion with other readers across the country.

The Together We Read: Canada digital book club connects readers through Canadian public libraries with the same ebook for two weeks and only requires a valid library card to get started. During the program, readers can also participate in engaging online discussions about the title. This free program is facilitated by OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines and creator of the award-winning Libby app.

“I’m thrilled that If Sylvie Had Nine Lives is part of Together We Read’s Canada-wide reading event,” said author Leona Theis, a native of Saskatchewan. “It’s wonderful to be part of this collaboration among publishers, libraries and authors. The local history room at Saskatoon Public Library was essential to my writing process for this novel.”

If Sylvie Had Nine Lives tells the story of Sylvie—a funny, sly, sensual and flawed woman. She can’t always count on herself to make good choices. She may or may not recognize a life-or-death moment, may or may not cancel her own wedding with a day to spare, might just try to walk past store security with a little something in her pocket. Like all of us, Sylvie must make decisions that have reverberations for years to come. Unlike the rest of us, Sylvie gets to live more than one life.

If Sylvie Had Nine Lives is published by Freehand Books and can be borrowed from participating libraries in Canada during Together We Read between January 10-24. The ebook can be read on all major computers and devices, including Kobo® tablets and eReaders, iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets and Chromebook™ without waitlists or holds. The title will automatically expire at the end of the lending period, and there are no late fees.

Download Libby or visit a local library branch to get started.
