Now more than ever it is vital for public and academic libraries to fight for the freedom to read, provide access to information, and keep the conversation going about the impact censorship has on our communities.

Atomic Focus Entertainment in association with Kanopy presents Banned Together: The Fight Against Censorship. This explosive new feature documentary pulls back the curtain on two of the most controversial issues in America today: book bans and curriculum censorship in public schools, and the unseen forces driving them. Banned Together follows three teenage activists as they fight book bans in their schools, speak with national politicians, bestselling/banned authors, constitutional scholars, PEN America, and more, as the film’s scope widens to include the larger national picture.

The film features interviews with best-selling authors whose works have been banned, including Jodi Picoult, Juno Dawson, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, Ellen Hopkins, and Erica L. Sánchez. It also includes insights from Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin, constitutional scholars, educators, librarians, parents, and student activists from across the country, and features discussions with representatives from the ACLU, PEN America, the American Library Association, and Moms for Liberty.

In addition to appearing at film festivals, the producers have launched a national Impact Campaign, which is supported by sponsorships, to provide select screenings to libraries, civic groups, and non-profit organizations prior to the 2024 elections. Atomic Focus Entertainment is currently prioritizing free screenings to libraries for a limited time.
