‘Get Lost with Libby’ and Get Inspired by Australian Libraries

During the month of August we invited our library friends to Get Lost with Libby! Across Australia, libraries jumped in with creativity, humor, and some seriously impressive craftsmanship to bring the campaign to life. The goal was simple: create a Get Lost with Libby themed display in the library or on social media and show patrons how easy it is to escape into reading and listening through the Libby app.

See some of the standout entries that made this competition a success!

Burwood Library

Burwood Library transformed a familiar space into a surprising, lush moment of discovery.

Staff came together over several weeks to crochet vines, leaves, and soft floral details, many trying their hand at the technique for the very first time. The final installation flowed down the stairwell and invited patrons to wander through a mini forest scene. Books displayed nearby included QR codes, offering a direct pathway from the physical display into Libby’s digital world.

It was a beautiful example of using handmade elements to create an immersive moment that pulls readers into the theme.

Noosa Libraries

Noosa took a more narrative approach by creating a simple, relatable video that sticks!

In the short clip, a staff member sits at their desk looking overwhelmed, until they press play on an audiobook in Libby. Suddenly, the tone shifts and they are transported into a calmer, nature-filled setting.

It is a light, memorable way to show how Libby can help patrons find a quick mental escape during a hectic day.

Muswellbrook Shire Libraries

Muswellbrook leaned all the way into whimsy.

Their display featured a fantastical creature wearing headphones and “listening” through a mobile device. It was bold, fun, and instantly eye-catching. Displays like this show how libraries can blend imagination with modern tools to highlight key Libby features.

Whether it is a character, a prop, or a playful scene, a touch of fantasy can draw curious patrons right in.

At Canterbury Bankstown, the saying “the more the merrier” couldn’t have been more true.

They set up several themed stations throughout the branch, but the highlight was an interactive DIYed selfie station that invited patrons to step up, snap a pic, and join in on the fun!

Monash Public Library Service

Monash kept things simple and clever with a short, pun-filled reel.

One staff member speaks quietly about Libby features, while another pretends to struggle to hear and says, “I’m sorry, you’re barely audible.” The first staff member responds, “Exactly. I’m Libby.”

It is quick, charming, and shows that humor does not require a big production.

What libraries can take away

This competition highlighted just how inventive libraries can be when they make a theme their own. The approaches varied widely, but many libraries leaned into what felt true, comfortable, and authentic to their community.

As you plan future displays or promotions, consider:

  • Finding creative ways to bring a theme to life using the resources and talents you already have
  • Highlighting digital content in ways that feel natural within your physical or online spaces
  • Experimenting with simple storytelling formats that fit your staff’s comfort level
  • Bringing in elements that spark curiosity and invite exploration

We loved seeing the creativity across Australia, and we hope these ideas inspire even more engaging Libby promotions in the future. If your library creates something you are proud of, we would love to see it.
