Make Social Media Easier: A Look at SOCi for Public Libraries
Managing your library’s social media can feel like a full-time job. Especially when your staff is already wearing multiple hats.
Planning a content calendar, creating posts, writing captions, scheduling content, and keeping up with comments and engagement all take time. And while social media is an important way to connect with your community, finding the time to consistently keep your channels active can be a challenge.
That’s where SOCi can help.
As part of the SOCi pilot, public libraries can use SOCi to manage, schedule, and analyze their social media content all in one place. Even better, libraries can also take advantage of suggested Libby and Kanopy content from the OverDrive team, giving you ready-to-use posts that can help supplement your library’s own social media strategy.
And you’re always in control.
When suggested content is available, you can:
- Publish it as is when it works for your audience.
- Personalize it with information about your library, community, or upcoming programs.
- Skip it when it isn’t the right fit.
This makes it easier to balance branded Libby and Kanopy content with the posts that make your library unique.
Make National Content Feel Local
One of the easiest ways to make ready-to-use social content more effective is to add your library’s own voice.
Before publishing a post, consider adding a sentence or two that connects the content to your community. You could mention an upcoming event, book club, program, or related library service. You can also adjust the caption so it sounds like your library rather than a national brand.
Then mix that content with your own photos, staff highlights, displays, events, programs, and other community-focused posts.
The result? A social media feed that combines the convenience of ready-to-use content with the personality and local connection that only your library can provide.
