CLEVELAND – November 3, 2025 – Library patrons across Canada are invited to join thousands of readers in the latest Together We Read: Canada digital book club selection, “Denison Avenue” by Daniel Innes and Christina Wong. From 4–18 November, participating libraries will offer free access to the ebook and audiobook with no waitlists or holds through the Libby app, the award-winning library reading app from OverDrive. Readers can also join a national online discussion to share their thoughts on the book.
“Denison Avenue” brings together striking ink artwork and lyrical fiction to tell the story of Wong Cho Sum, an elderly widow navigating Toronto’s gentrifying Chinatown–Kensington Market. After the sudden loss of her husband, Cho Sum begins collecting bottles and cans to fill her days and keep loneliness at bay. Along her long walks through the city, she meets new friends, confronts classism and racism, and rebuilds her life in a neighbourhood being rapidly transformed.
A meditation on aging, grief, and resilience, “Denison Avenue” beautifully combines visual art, storytelling, and the endangered Toisan dialect to illuminate the experiences of vulnerable Chinese Canadian elders.Daniel Innes, a Toronto-born multidisciplinary artist, and Christina Wong, a playwright and writer whose work often explores identity, belonging, and community, collaborated on this moving portrait of contemporary urban life.
“Denison Avenue” is published by ECW Press and can be borrowed from participating libraries in Canada during Together We Read: Canada. The ebook and audiobook can be enjoyed on all major devices with no late fees or waitlists. To get started, download the Libby app or visit www.LibbyApp.com.
