New Adobe Reader 6, Huge Title Collection, and Digital Audio Book Lending Among Features of OverDrive Presentation

(CLEVELAND – June 11, 2003) – OverDrive, the leading global digital book company, announced today that it will be exhibiting at the American Library Association / Canadian Library Association Annual Meeting in Toronto from June 21-24 in Booth #3702.  The company will demonstrate new Adobe Reader and DRM technologies, an expansive collection of digital book products from over 150 US and international publishers, and a system for lending digital audio book titles.

OverDrive Digital Library systems are designed to serve patrons remotely from a library’s website with seamless integration into the library’s catalog and automation services. OverDrive will be demonstrating their Digital Library systems at booth #3702, giving librarians the opportunity to experience the versatile feature set and patron services available in OverDrive’s premium flagship product, “Digital Library Reserve” including:

  • Support for libraries to lend best-selling audio books allowing patrons to download titles to their own PCs and portable media players.
  • Self-service systems for patrons to checkout and return Adobe PDF and Palm Reader eBook titles using their own PCs and PDAs including Palm and Pocket PCs.
  • The largest collection of most popular titles through Content Reserve – OverDrive’s clearinghouse of best-selling eBooks from leading publishers.
  • The ability to build open collections of eBooks, documents, articles and other media from local and archived sources.

“We have seen tremendous expansion of our library collection in both Adobe and Palm eBook formats in all subject, age, and language categories,” stated Pamela Turner, OverDrive Director of Content.  Librarians will also be able to test drive the eBook features of Adobe Reader 6 and sample how digital audio books can be downloaded by library patrons.

Since OverDrive entered the library eBook market this spring, dozens of additional US, UK and international publishers have added their eBook titles to OverDrive’s Digital Library.  Supplying publishers include Amacon, HarperCollins, AOL Time Warner Book Group, McGraw-Hill, Publishers Group West, Sourcebooks, Zondervan, University of California Press, Taylor & Francis, Scholastic, and Oxford University Press plus over 100 more.
