10 of our favorite quotes from children’s books that offer great life advice
By: Adam Sockel, OverDrive Social Media Specialist and lover of whimsy
Around the OverDrive campus we adore children’s books. They’re the foundation of what made us all fall in love with reading. Stop by any random desk in our offices and you’ll find inspiring children’s book quotes in the form of posters, print outs and, for some of us (including the author), even tattoos. While bonding with our parents and older siblings we first learned that the pages of books can take you anywhere you can imagine. Impossible locations like Narnia, Wonderland, Hogwarts and even the inside of a giant peach can be visited simply by opening a book. These reasons and countless others make Children’s Book Week one of our favorite annual celebrations. Below you’ll find ten children’s book quotes that inspire us on a daily basis.
As the resident Seuss-o-phile I’d be remiss if I didn’t start this list with everyone’s favorite doctor. His books are loaded with inspiring and educational quotes and this one teaches us that your life can be anything you want it to be. You just have to be willing to take those first steps.
Having a sense or order and planning in your life is important but don’t let your entire life always go according to plan. Sometimes the best experiences comes from something unexpected. After all, it’s important to remain curious…and just a little bit mad.
Words are powerful. They have the ability to affect our emotions and those around us. When sharing your thoughts it’s essential to remember the power they possess.
There will be times in life when you think thoughts that may not be the most positive. What makes you who you are, though, is how you act upon those thoughts. Your actions define you to the world.
As we grow up we sometimes start to think we know everything. We argue with parents, teachers and mentors, certain we know best. But learning never stops. In fact, there are ideas and thoughts out there that we haven’t even considered yet, let alone understand.
You are unique. You are the only you that has ever existed. You’re special and entirely original. It’s important that we never lose sight of this.
Experiences help form bonds between people. You never know when what moments, trips or adventures will lead to the friends that will enter your life but rest assured they will be memorable…especially if they involve mountain trolls.
Books have the power to comfort, inspire and change you. No matter what you’re going through you can always find refuge in the pages of a story, be it familiar or entirely new. As C.S. Lewis said, “We read to know we are not alone.”
There will be people who may not understand the type of person you choose to be but that’s okay. Those who matter will love you unconditionally, no matter how much hair you’ve lost.
Life can be challenging and success comes with lots of hard work and focus. It’s important to remember to take breaks now and then and celebrate all that’s good around you. Sometimes the best way to do that is to find your best animal onesie and crown and show off your wild side.
