We’re in Love (with BISAC Codes)
By: Annie Suhy, Librarian and OverDrive Collection Development Analyst.
I’m sure by now you’ve heard the big news we’ve been shouting from the rooftops: we’ve added BISAC codes to Marketplace! BISAC codes make our hearts skip a beat and have us feeling weak in the knees at the possibilities. Maybe that’s why our Staff Librarians have been using this handy new searching tool to comb through Marketplace and create some very specific–and very fun!–romance lists.
Ever in the mood for a modern, sappy, inspiring romance and find yourself wading through sleuthing lovers, frisky vampires, and 18th-century courtships? We have. But suffer no more!
With BISAC, you now have the ability to filter to find just what you’re looking for. Historical romance? Check. Paranormal romance? Check. Inspirational, Science Fiction, Erotic? Check, check, and check.
We started with romance, not just because BISAC has us in the mood with all of it’s saucy new searching capabilities. Romance is actually one of the most popular digital genres. Romance readers have been among the first to migrate to eBook, which some attribute to the privacy factor. Commuters will never know a romance reader from a highbrow literature fan, and aficionados are left to enjoy their erotica judgment-free. In my experience, romance also tends to read quickly, and with the seemingly endless options available at your local library, it’s easy to finish the last page and check out another in a matter of minutes.
Speaking of new romance you’re looking to read…check out our lists (created with the help of BISAC) to find your next reading love affair:
