Participating libraries’ users can experience and discuss the international bestselling love story “The Binding” as an ebook for free

LONDON – 1 August 2019 – Many library authorities across the country are now offering the latest Together We Read: UK digital book club selection to connect their users with thousands of other library users around the UK. From 1st-15th August, participating libraries’ users can enjoy and discuss Bridget Collins’ international bestselling ebook The Binding for free with no waitlists or holds. Readers can access the ebook by visiting their local participating library’s website or by downloading the Libby app, and then can join in an online discussion.

The Together We Read: UK digital book club connects readers in the UK with the same ebook at the same time through public library authorities. This two-week programme is completely free, requiring only a participating library card to get started. Together We Read is facilitated by Rakuten OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines and creator of the award-winning Libby app.

“I’ve always been fascinated by memory and identity, two of the biggest themes of The Binding,” said Collins, who is also a trained actor and graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. “At its core though, it’s a love story, and one that unashamedly wears its heart on its sleeve. It’s also a book about books and their power – a book-lover’s book, I hope, in more ways than one.”

THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

In The Binding, Emmett Farmer is working in the fields when a letter arrives summoning him to begin an apprenticeship for a Bookbinder, a vocation that arouses fear, superstition and prejudice – but one neither he nor his parents can afford to refuse. He will learn to hand-craft beautiful volumes, and within each he will capture something unique and extraordinary: a memory. If there’s something you want to forget, he can help. Your past will be stored safely in a book and you will never remember your secret, however terrible. In a vault storing memories, Emmett makes an astonishing discovery: one of them has his name on it.

Published by Harper Collins Publishers, The Binding ebook can be borrowed from any participating library in the UK during Together We Read. The ebook can be read on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets and Chromebook™ without waitlists or holds. The title will automatically expire at the end of the lending period, and there are no late fees. Download Libby to get started.
