New ways to bundle content, exclusive streaming titles and new Kanopy Kids subscription option maximize flexibility and value for public libraries

CHICAGO – June 23, 2023 – Kanopy, the leading streaming provider of award-winning film and television for libraries, is showcasing new features and catalog additions at the 2023 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition. Highlights include new flexible program models designed for public libraries, an expanded catalog featuring exclusive titles and a Kanopy Kids subscription package. Kanopy provides 30,000 streaming video titles from over 800 suppliers to more than 8,000 public and academic libraries worldwide.

ALA Annual attendees can learn more by visiting Kanopy at parent company OverDrive’s Booth #4025 at McCormick Place Convention Center, June 23-26, 2023.

“We are excited to be back in person at ALA Annual, and we’re showcasing the new content and program options we’ve recently developed based on popular demand,” said Jason Tyrrell, General Manager at Kanopy. “Our partner libraries now have numerous program options that provide more flexibility in budget planning while providing gold-standard simultaneous streaming access to members in their communities. That, combined with the introduction of the Kanopy Kids subscription, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to delivering value to libraries and their communities.”

Flexible Program Models:  Kanopy continues to provide new ways for libraries, staff and students to efficiently enjoy streaming video. With flexible program models like Pay Per Use, subscription, Patron-Driven Acquisition and upfront licensing, libraries can cost-effectively cater to their patrons’ interests and students’ educational preference with diverse streaming formats including films, documentaries and educational courses.

Catalog Highlights: Since the last ALA Annual Conference one year ago, Kanopy has expanded its catalog by over 8,000 new titles including a wide range of new and exclusive streaming titles. Featuring titles and series from renowned filmmakers, distributors and educational institutions worldwide, the Kanopy catalog now includes thought-provoking documentaries and acclaimed films from NEON, IFC and A24, as well as popular episodic series from BBC Studios.

Kanopy Kids Update:  By popular demand, Kanopy introduced the highly anticipated Kanopy Kids subscription option with over 2,000 titles for public libraries. This specialized package offers curated, age-appropriate content for young viewers, promoting learning and entertainment in a safe and enriching environment. With beloved characters like Sesame Street, Madeline, Blippi and Paddington Bear, libraries can provide educational and entertaining content that captivates children’s imaginations and supports their intellectual growth.

Academic Library Milestone:  This year also marks a significant milestone for Kanopy as it celebrates one year of its popular BASE (Bundled Academic Subscription for Education) subscription model, a favorite among Kanopy’s network of over 2,200 academic libraries. Kanopy BASE empowers libraries to provide students and staff with unlimited access to nearly 10,000 high-quality documentaries, films and educational resources. With a refreshed catalog, BASE has become a reliable model for colleges and universities to deliver exceptional content to their students and faculty on or off-campus.

Adventure Never Ends Social Media Contest Winners:  Public libraries far and wide participated in Kanopy’s in-person Tabletop Role-Playing Game (TTRPG) contest with patrons gathering to celebrate community together at their local branch. Drawing inspiration from Kanopy’s original documentary Adventure Never Ends, which celebrates the return to in-person gaming during and after the height of the pandemic, community members played their favorite games and posted to social media their gatherings. With the contest coming to an exuberant close, Kanopy will now announce the winners of the contest this weekend at OverDrive’s partner breakfast. The grand prize-winning library will receive an impressive bundle of games, dice and play books including the Platinum Edition of The Wild Beyond the Witchlight. View the full prizes on the Adventure Never Ends site.
