Public Library CONNECT enables students to seamlessly access their local public library’s digital collection through the Sora platform using their school credentials. This innovative collaboration at the local level eliminates barriers to library access by bypassing the need for separate library cards or account registrations. Students gain instant access to age-appropriate ebooks and audiobooks, fostering a culture of reading and learning both inside and outside the classroom.

In 2024, this partnership between schools and public libraries has proven to be more successful than ever, driving unprecedented growth with nearly 5.8 million public library checkouts from Sora, a 13.2% increase in circulation over 2023. The title leading the way was Diary of a Wimpy Kid: No Brainer by Jeff Kinney.

For the secondary librarians at Bethel SD in Spanaway, WA, Public Library CONNECT has been a success thanks to the support from their team at OverDrive. “We received an amazing presentation from our Account Manager at the beginning of the school year that targeted our understanding of the services,” said librarian Jamie Moffet. “Through this training we learned how to look at student reports, how to best assist students in searching for books, and how to encourage checkouts to our students. We are incredibly grateful for our connection to Pierce County Library System and the services it provides our students!”
