Library users can read the Booker Prize longlisted title for free on the Libby app

LONDON – 29 September 2021 – Thousands of library authorities and readers across the United Kingdom are coming together to share the latest Together We Read: UK digital book club selection. From 29 September-13 October, participating libraries’ users can experience Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun, longlisted for the Booker Prize 2021, as an ebook and audiobook for free. Readers can access the digital book with no waiting lists or holds by downloading the Libby app. They can also participate in an online discussion with other readers across the country.

The Together We Read: UK digital book club connects readers in the UK with the same ebook at the same time through participating public library authorities. This two-week programme is completely free, requiring only a valid library card to get involved. Together We Read is facilitated by OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines and creator of the award-winning Libby app.

“More libraries in the UK than ever now have access to Libby and the Together We Read: UK program,” said Nick Forester. “We’re thrilled to connect readers around the country through a shared reading experience and online discussion.”

Klara and the Sun tells the story of Klara, an “Artificial Friend” companion robot with outstanding observational qualities. Klara watches carefully from her place in the store the behaviour of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass in the street outside. She remains hopeful a customer will soon choose her, but when the possibility emerges that her circumstances may change for ever, Klara is warned not to invest too much in the promises of humans.

Klara and the Sun is published by Faber & Faber and can be borrowed from participating libraries in the UK during Together We Read between 29 September-13 October. The ebook and audiobook can be read on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets, Kobo® tablets and eReaders, and Chromebook™ without waiting lists or holds. The title will automatically expire at the end of the lending period, and there are no late fees. Download Libby to get started.
