OverDrive Education Summer Read Program Expands in 2017
Thousands of K-12 students in North America will enjoy more free eBooks all summer long
CLEVELAND — May 22, 2017 — Schools are gearing up for summer break. While summer presents an opportunity to relax and enjoy the sunshine, OverDrive Education wants students to find ways to learn while away from the classroom. More than 13,500 schools have partnered with OverDrive Education for an annual summer reading program designed to encourage students to keep reading. To keep students engaged while on break, OverDrive Education has expanded the Summer Read program from 8 to 12 popular eBooks. Thousands of students from OverDrive partner schools will enjoy free, 24/7 access to juvenile and young adult eBooks over eight weeks, June 7–August 7.
“By increasing the number of eBooks, we can reach more students with a wider variety of titles,” said Christina Samek, Summer Read project coordinator, OverDrive Education. “Expanding the length to cover essentially the entire summer, we will be supporting schools to prevent the summer slide. There’s something for every reader, from Read-Alongs for younger readers to young adult books for middle and high school students.”
Students from all 50 states and eight Canadian provinces will enjoy six Juvenile and six YA eBooks from Nickelodeon, Orca Book Publishers, Sleeping Bear Press, AudioGO, Ink Monster LLC, Pants on Fire Press and Harmony Ink Press. This year’s collection covers a wide range of topics and offers a wonderful cast of characters.
