PLA 2024 might be over, but we get another opportunity to celebrate libraries with National Library Week!

National Library Week (April 7—April 13, 2024) is a time to celebrate the vital role libraries play in our communities. It’s a moment to recognize the importance of literacy, education, and access to information. For libraries, it’s also an opportunity to engage with patrons in new and exciting ways. 

This year’s theme is Ready, Set, Library! From book clubs to lending bakeware from a Library of Things and creative (and puzzling) programming opportunities, libraries are vibrant community hubs that encourage creativity and connection.

In addition to being solar eclipse day, this year April 8 is also Right to Read Day. This advocacy day encourages readers and library lovers everywhere to stand up for our freedom to read. 

Tues., April 9

Celebrate the valuable contributions of librarians and library staff everywhere on National Library Workers Day! 

Wed., April 10

National Library Outreach Day is dedicated to library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are. 

Thurs., April 11

Our libraries play a critical role in our democracy, encouraging readers, educating voters, and preparing all of us to participate in elections. On Take Action for Libraries Day, advocates are encouraged to confirm their participation in upcoming elections.
