Banned Books Week began in 1982 as a response to the increasing number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores, and libraries. The American Library Association (ALA) and other partners launched this initiative to bring attention to attempts to restrict access to certain materials and to promote the value of free and open access to ideas, even those that are considered controversial or challenging. 

At its core, Banned Books Week highlights the significance of ensuring that everyone, especially young people, has access to diverse perspectives, stories, and ideas. 

In support of Banned Books Week, many of our publisher partners are celebrating the freedom to read by providing access to frequently banned and challenged books in the popular Cost Per Circ (CPC) on-demand model. For many of these titles, this is the first time these titles are available in CPC! 

With Cost Per Circ (CPC) you only pay when a user borrows a title. CPC titles can be borrowed by an unlimited number of users at the same time until you reach your set budget. This access model is great for book clubs, meeting high patron demand, and more. Learn more about why we love CPC here.
