Recently, the OverDrive Collection Development Librarians had stars in their eyes and butterflies in their stomachs when they pulled together a bouquet of romance-focused lists using the new BISAC codes in Marketplace. This month, our Staff Librarians team up with BISAC once again, but this time, with a more critical eye.

Instead of shining a light on the usual suspects, we dig in and uncover popular mystery subgenres that include cozies, thrillers, hard-boiled, and more. Is there nothing more mystifying than settling down with a hot cup of tea, cuddling under a blanket, and reading about crazy killers when you really just want a comfy cozy? Or picking through a police procedural when you what you really crave is a culinary caper? Luckily, BISAC is on the case with specific filters that will help you find exactly what you want to read.

It’s no mystery that mystery happens to be a favorite genre among readers. As a top circulating genre in public libraries, most patrons are clued into their favorites and seek out top authors including Lee Child, Elmore Leonard, Jacqueline Winspear, Ann Perry, Charlaine Harris, Tana French, Lisa Scottoline, Michael Connelly, and so many more. With mystery titles often being part of an ongoing series, many eagerly await the arrival of the next installment. Kids even get in on the action with many novels targeted just for the sleuths-in-training including the ever-famous Nancy Drew series to the more recent 39 Clues series by Rick Riordan.

But even if you’re not currently familiar with all of the subgenres within mystery, you don’t have to be a PI to find a new favorite. We suspect you’ll love these fun new mystery lists in Marketplace:
