New toolkit instantly aggregates professional reviews and credentialed details about children’s and young adult books

BALTIMORE – January 18, 2024 – TeachingBooks, the leading source for supplemental educational materials that “bring books to life,” is showcasing the new Book Resumes toolkit during the 2024 American Library Association’s Library Learning Experience (LibLearnX) conference. LibLearnX attendees can learn more by visiting TeachingBooks in the OverDrive booth #1129 at the Baltimore Convention Center between January 20-22, 2024.

Designed to address the changes and challenges to workflows for Juvenile and Young Adult collection development, Book Resumes help librarians and educators address the critical question, “Is this book right for my collection?” Within seconds, Book Resumes generate a concise, clear report for the selected title ready to print, share with colleagues or save as a PDF. Each Book Resume includes available professional reviews from leading authoritative sources including School Library Journal, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, The Horn Book and Audiofile Magazine. Each report is organized into sections that can be navigated and expanded with comprehensive data for the title including awards, state list recognitions, established reading levels, Library of Congress Subject Headings and more.

“Book Resumes provide a time-saving solution to generate consistent, authoritative book information as part of a process to determine which books are right for someone’s collection,” said Nick Glass, the Founder and Head of TeachingBooks. “Feedback from early users has been encouraging, with many sharing that Book Resumes are providing consistent, credentialed information that support library staff and educators review their existing materials and titles for future purchases.”

Book Resumes are available on TeachingBooks for more than 90,000 titles, including the most popular and often challenged within Juvenile and Young Adult books. Reports may be run for individual titles or entire collections. Each Book Resume contains:

  • Full professional, unabridged reviews from eight respected sources.
  • Recognitions and awards from state lists and journals.
  • Metadata at-a-glance about grade level, reading levels, genre, subject headings and more.
  • Book Resumes also provide digital previews of the title via audio and ebook excerpts.

The service is available for free to libraries and schools with a TeachingBooks subscription, and Book Resumes are available for titles on TeachingBooks (see example). Visit booth #1129 at LLX for a demonstration.

LibLearnX attendees can learn more by visiting the OverDrive booth #1129 from January 20-22, 2024. For more information, visit https://school.teachingbooks.net/bookresumes.
