During the Presidential inauguration of Joe Biden, millions of viewers were moved by the passionate words of Amanda Gorman, the first National Youth Poet Laureate in the U.S. In reading her original poem, The Hill We Climb, Amanda sparked an ongoing conversation about the power of poetry and how inspiring it can be. With that in mind, our Collection Development staff librarians created a wonderful list in Marketplace of political and socially active poetry for libraries and schools to add to their digital collection.

Curated poetry collections

You can curate these titles and any similar ones in your digital library to provide easier access for your patrons. It’s exciting to see so many readers of all ages discovering how powerful poetry can be as social commentary. Now is the perfect time to highlight these lyrical reflections on society, history, and more.

We’ve also created a version of the collection on overdrive.com for readers to access.
