I love summer. I love the sunshine and the heat. I love the sounds of summer: kids biking down my street, the ice cream truck in the distance, sprinklers running to save the grass, laughter in the air – I love all of it.

But do you know what else I love? The end of summer. Because the end of summer means it’s time for the best season of all: spooky season! As much as I love ice cream and laughter, let’s make way for cider and screams of fear.

Check out these resources from our Resource Center to spook up some reading…if you dare!

Social scares

We have a lot to choose from when it comes to inspiring readers to check out the best eBOOOOks your Sora reading app collection has to offer. Start simple by wishing them a Happy Halloween with this graphic, highlighting some of the best in scary content. Honestly, There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins stole a solid night of sleep from me and it’s about to be a Netflix film that will surely steal at least one more.

If your students are old ghouls at heart, encourage them to revisit the classics with this graphic highlighting the OG greats: Dracula, Macbeth and Frankenstein.

Still on the hunt for more scares? Your students are my kind of readers! Look no further than this month’s Read if you Dare kit on Trending – there’s bound to be something spooky for everyone. The kit features haunting graphics highlighting beloved (and horrifying) titles like Real Scary Stories, Slasher Girls and Monster Boys and more!

Still not scary enough? Okay, wow. Now you’re scaring me! Try your hand at making your own spooky resources with our new customizable Canva templates on the Personalize tab. Add your own jackets and copy (spooky or otherwise) as you see fit!

Be sure to check out the Resource Center each month to meet all your seasonal needs! Jolly holiday materials are right around the corner.

In the meantime, enjoy the scares and happy spooky reading!
