Digital ebooks for required reads now available in simple per-grade price model, educators can learn more at FETC

ORLANDO, Fla. – January 24, 2024 OverDrive announced today that it has streamlined the pricing for digital books required for EL Education’s curriculum. Educators can purchase an ebook bundle of required reads for K-8 student reading on the Sora platform as a single price per student/per grade, greatly increasing equity by ensuring every student has a copy of the book they need. Educators can learn more by visiting Sora Booth #2940 at the Future of Education Technology (FETC) conference in Orlando from January 24-26.

“It has been especially helpful for our staff and students to have access to EL resources through OverDrive,” said Kimberly Ray, Director of Digital Learning & Library Services at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. “The digital versions of the required and recommended texts allowed increased access to resources inside the classroom and provided the option to continue the learning outside of the school day. It has been a cost-effective approach to wider access for many of our students.”

Schools that have adopted the EL Education curriculum can complement print with digital books in Sora, and half of all schools in the USA already have the capacity to do so. The Sora student reading platform serves more than 62,000 schools worldwide with the industry’s best ebook and audiobook catalog and award-winning user experience. Digital reading in Sora is simple: Complete the EL Education inquiry form; purchase the number of grade bundles your school requires; after purchase, titles can be live on student devices in as little as two hours. Digital books do not require rostering, can be reserved with an unlock code, and accommodate all kinds of readers with features like dictionary, translation, highlights and annotation.

Nearly 99 percent of EL Education required titles that are produced in a digital format are available in Sora, such as The Snowy Day, Hidden Figures and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. Similarly, some four hundred supplemental titles that enhance EL Education’s standard ELA modules are available in Sora, too. Digital books are also available in other languages and in audiobook and readalong formats. Pricing starts at just $13.99 per pupil in grade 8.
